For the fifth consecutive year, the Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery will host this extraordinary survey of the best young talent working in the middle and high school art programs across the state of Rhode Island. This annual show features over one hundred outstanding examples of student work in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and design.
This exhibition runs from January 21 to February 02, 2014. On Sunday, January 26, 2014the campus community and the general public are invited to attend the award ceremony and the opening reception for the artists. The award ceremony will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 in the O’Hare Academic Center’s Bazarsky Lecture Hall. The reception will run from 12:00 to 1:30 and 3:30 to 5:00 in the Antone Academic Center’s Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery.

The title SHAPE | COLOR | LIGHT refers to Catherine Kehoe’s persistent study of light and its dynamic translation into color and shape. Visual acuity is central to her painting process. Through intense observation and precise paint handling, Kehoe recasts the still life and human figure as hard-edged networks of interlocking, painted planes.
Kehoe’s small panel paintings draw the viewer into a vibrant and exacting microcosm of her world. Each is a lively experiment in pictorial construction, a compressed space where representation and abstraction compete for supremacy.
By contrast, Kehoe’s drawings in ink or charcoal feature a geometric armature of intersecting line. They reflect a commitment to measuring and mapping that’s essential to her analytical methodology.
Catherine Kehoe was born in Hartford, Connecticut. She received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and MFA from the School of Visual Arts at Boston University. Her work has been exhibited extensively. She is represented by Miller Yezerski Gallery in Boston.
Kehoe has received grants from the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and Berkshire Taconic Artist’s Resource Trust. She teaches painting at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and has taught drawing at Boston University School of Visual Arts. She has also taught painting workshops at Art New England, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the Washington Art Association, Cullowhee Mountain Arts, and at Civita Castellana in Italy. The Dorrance H. Hamilton Gallery is located in the Antone Academic Center on the campus of Salve Regina University. It is handicap accessible with parking along Lawrence and Leroy Avenues. Its exhibits are open Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays 11:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays noon to 4:00 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
